The prospect of traveling, whether within the country or abroad, can be very exciting. There are so many places to go and things to do! It’s a little easy to get carried away with planning events and there may be a need to adjust the budget a time or two accordingly. When preparing for travel, it is wise to keep in mind ways to keep the costs down. There are many ways to decrease expenses and have a pleasant trip.
There are, however, some things that should not be skimped on. One of these is Travel Insurance. It may be fun to frequent a local market a time or to rather than the fancy eatery. But while insurance may seem like an expense that you can forego and the likelihood is great that you won’t have occasion to use it, it is a precaution that you should be prudent to work into your budget.
You’ll want to determine what advantages you’d like to include and locate a reputable agency. There are quote sites available that allow you to enter specific criteria including age. Within a company there are different plans. Determine what amenities you’ll really need. If you are not carrying sports gear or equipment, for example, you will need a smaller amount of coverage. You may be able to rent some of the equipment when you arrive. Take note to the difference in plans- some have cancellation policies that may cause you to lose out depending on the reason. If you have an unexpected event that causes you to cancel your trip, you should be able to re-book when convenient for you without it costing you again. Some plans refund a voucher, some give back cash. Even if you can’t afford the most expense plan, basic coverage will give you a bit of security and peace of mind so that you can enjoy your trip to the fullest.
To keep the cost down, there are many options available. Many travel agencies have discount program available depending on the age of the travelers. There are plans for the over 65. To take advantage of some of these discounts, it may be as simple as a call to your local agency. Or, you might complete some online searches to compare prices from one company to another.
Often, depending on the trip you’d like to take, there are group rates available for the travel itself or for individual events when you arrive. This is an additional savings that means it may benefit your pocket to travel with friends.
By this point in your life, you may have accumulated ‘frequent flier’ miles. These can help with your budget as well so that that you needn’t skimp on the insurance. Be a bit resourceful, do your homework, and you will be able to have the vacation you want.
With a little hunting, on average, the over 65 crowd should be able to arrange at least a 10 or even 15 % discount from their travel insurance costs.

Democrats have proposed a complete overhaul of the nations health care system, but Republicans are not so quick to jump on board. Mostly because they feel that it will not only cost the country too much money, but will limit freedom of choice for most Americans.
Recently the Republican party proposed a tax credit to help Americans pay for their health insurance. This plan which has the backing of several Republicans in the House and Senate is their way of mobilizing against Democratic efforts to create a public insurance plan that would require employers to provide or in other words, pay for, the health insurance coverage of all their workers. The Republican party fears that doing this will halt the creation of new jobs and create a nationalized health care system, to which they are stringently opposed. The Republican plan, called the Patients Choice Act, would eliminate the tax break that employers currently receive for providing health insurance benefits to eligible workers. Instead, their plan would look to provide individuals with annual tax credits to help subsidize the costs of their individual health insurance plans.
Legislation to reduce health care expenses and making insurance more accessible is what President Obama has asked from the Congress. He, along with other Democrats, desires health insurance coverage for all uninsured folks and increased competition for the private insurance corporations.
There is contentious discussion amongst the parties regarding details but both have some common ground as all realize there has to be a change. The similarities are creation of insurance exchanges which creates comparison based shopping for insurance plans. Also, both parties want to see more emphasis of expenses put toward prevantable diseases, trying to correct it before it becomes a more expensive problem.
All ideas will be considered and Congress assures us that the end result will be beneficial to more Americans to have access to health insurance. This plan should be through Congress by the end of the summer.

After working its way through the legislative process, a bill that would have raised cigarette taxes in South Caroling was blocked by the Senate Minority Leader. The bill would have generated money to assist in covering health care costs.
After clearing the House by a 97 to 22 vote, the bill was tabled. It would have increased the cigarette tax to 50 cents, up from the current national low of 7 cents per pack. The national average is $1.23 per pack on cigarettes. It was estimated that the bill would increase annual revenue by $145 million.
The majority of the money from the tax would be applied toward a maximum of $3,000 for individual health care plans for low income uninsured residents. Employers who contributed would also receive a credit of 67% for their contributions.
The bill was a waste of time, proclaimed John Land, the Senate Minority Leader. He thinks the tax revenue should be put in the Medicaid state plan to have a more efficient impact.
Land claimed that he would not vote for the bill in its current state under any circumstances, stating that he felt it was one of the silliest things he’d seen ever proposed in South Carolina.

Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle shut the Keiki Care plan down last year. This was a free health insurance program for the children of Hawaii. Some people have been choosing the free plan over their available individual plans and this caused budget problems according to Governer Lingle.
Linda Smith, the governor’s senior policy advisor said this plan basically provided a public subsidy for families that could afford their own health insurance. They were able to get health insurance at no charge, with the public paying for it.
Renewing Keiki Care is the plan of Hawaii’s Legislature which is Democrat controlled according to the Associated Press. They are going to add funds through separate spending bills to support the children’s insurance program instead of trying to push through a single bill which the Governor would veto.
The Governor can keep the additional funds held back from these additional bills, and she has continuing opposition to providing free insurance coverage for people who could afford it if they had to purchase insurance.
The ideals within the health insurance struggle continue to conflict.
